Senior leaders of Marxist party have gone on record to say that if, pl note, if, tribal people want to talk, we will, but no talks with maoist. I have no doubt the central forces will ultimately triumph over tribal resistence .
but what will be won in this case? a piece of land, yes but what about the heartspace of the local tribal communities? No body will sanction use of violence by any one is a democratic set up.
there are several problems with the state policy on the subject of rural violence triggered by grave violation of human rights , neglect of the basic tenets of social justice aand persistent poverty:
a) the situation in purulia, Araku valley , koraput, and many similar araes of central provinces, the poverty in tribal areas is an eloquent proof of the indifference of the state.
b) it matters little if the tribal people belong to a state governed by left or right political parties.
c) persistent poverty and police excesses in the wake of local protest have created fertile ground for the growth of extremist Maoist ideology /group sin these regions.
d) fair opportunities of growth and development in a near term is the only solution, Declaration of extreme leftists groups as the greatest enemy of the state is a wrong formulation.
e) one hopes that better sense will prevail and dialogue will be started with local disaffected people, their genuine developmental aspirations will be met in a time bound manner and use of excessive force against these gropups will stop.

silence of progressive forces on such matter tells its own tale
may be they should read the novel The Mandarins again, written in the context of edtor of le Monde facing a dilemma, whether to publish the news about discovery
of concentration camps in soviet russia. Will speaking truth cause damage to the cause of left which he espoused ( and which i also espouse, as ever).
