SRISTI and BIRAC-DBT (http://www.birac.nic.in/desc_new.php?id=98) have decided to facilitate the Innovations by students and support value addition by students in grassroots innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge.
The purpose is to support early stage student led ideas and innovations even at proof of concept level for recognition and further development in the field of medical devices, diagnostics, and biotech applications for meeting unmet social needs in extremely frugal and potentially sustainable manner.
a. BIRAC-SRISTI GYTI Awards: BIRAC-SRISTI program will support 15 students from among GYTI Awardees in the category of Medical and Healthcare. A Grant of Rs. 15 lacs will be given to each awardee to take the project ahead for further development in two years.
b. BIRAC-SRISTI Appreciation Awards: BIRAC will support 100 grassroots and students (children’s) innovations. A grant of Rs. 1.0 lacs each will be given to develop the products/prototype or pursue preliminary screening for validating the claims scientifically.
The innovators vying for these awards should submit their entry online at Gyti.techpedia.in or send by email to gyti.techpedia@sristi.org. Once accepted for GYTI contest, the selected entries will become eligible for BIRAC-SRISTI awards as per the norms.
Proposals to validate screened grassroots practices from Honey Bee Network database will be invited from the students in the area of life science, microbiology, botany, zoology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, phytochemistry, agriculture, veterinary science, etc., to work on the grassroots practices selected by Sristi under this initiative.
