Laitkynsew village is home of the living root bridges across the monsoon-fed river. The local Khasi and Jaintia people have managed to somehow train the secondary roots of trees to travel across the river and then embedded the same on the other side. Smit, Shillong which is known as the Khasi culture center and is also known for the Palace of Hima Khyrim, last king of the Khyrim.

How to reach Laitkynsew village, Sohra (Cherrapunji):

The nearest Bus/ Railway Station is Guwahati (Assam) and Airport is Shillong. The participants should reach Guwahati latest by the morning of 3rd January 2011 only then they will be able to arrive at Laitkynsew village by afternoon/late afternoon.

Buses/taxis are available from Guwahati to Sohra (Cherrapunji) (170 km) which take 7-8 hours for the entire journey. Participants should reach the village Laitkynsew before 04.00 p.m. as no transport is available after 04.00 p.m.

NOTE: Please carry a valid photo identity card with you due to security concerns. Also please note that only Post paid connections will be working in the region.
