The Idea and Innovation contest- IGNITE 2011’s school student award winners

National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF), Ahmedabad announces the names of the award winners of the IGNITE 2011 – school students’ national ideas and innovations competition. Overall 4104 submissions of students from twenty five states & union territories of the country were received during the IGNITE 11 competition, which ran from October 16, 2010 to September 10, 2011. The IGNITE competition is organised by NIF in association with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Society for Research and Initiatives in Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI), various State Education Boards and other partners.

A desktop machine to clean and separate broken rice grains and impurities from whole grains, a four legged walker with height adjustable legs, device to assist low vision people, multipurpose room air processing machine, system to detect Computer Vision Syndrome, Blind navigation system with terrain mapping among others were some of the interesting ideas selected for the final awards. The names of the 22 award winners in different categories are being announced on the birthday (October 15) of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India. NIF celebrates this day as the Children\\\’s Creativity and Innovation Day every year.

For the best ideas and innovations received during IGNITE 11, the prizes to the award winners will be given on November 11th, 2011 at RJMCEI, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam in a function starting at 3 pm. There will also be an exhibition of the all the award winning entries. All the awarded ideas and innovations will be provided incubation support including prototyping and patenting in the students’ names.

NIF, an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has been actively engaged in promoting creativity and innovation in our society through volunteers of Honey Bee Network, CBSE network and others. IGNITE is an effort to focus primarily on the creativity of the children and promoting original inclusive and compassionate thinking among them.
